Hope Services Community Fair
Alan O. reported:
Hope Services of Hawaii held the Community Fair and Luncheon for the Homeless on November 18, 2016. This project was funded equally by the Rotary Club of Hilo Bay (District Grant) and the Hauoli Mau Loa Foundation. Rotarians from the Rotary Club of Hilo Bay worked with a 100 volunteers for three hours to complete this very successful event.
Date: November 18, 2016
Time: 10:00am to 12:30pm
Place: Aunty Sally's Luau Hale
Hope Services Contact: Brandee Menino & Leilani Ulu
Rotarians Participating: Ten (11) plus one candidate for club membership.
1. Kevin Hopkins
2. Dayday Hopkins
3. Katie Lambert
4. Sharon Scheele
5. Alan Okinaka
6. Chester Cabral
7. Richard Cunningham
8. Sandy Sakaguchi
9. Curt Sharp
10. Marlene Norton
11. Debra Teichman (Candidate for membership)
12. Alan Kusunoki (Rotary Club of Hilo, ADG)
Volunteer Tasks Performed: Greet and registered guests; packaged and handed out give-a-ways; assembled plate meals for guests; and dish washing.
Number of Homeless Clients Served: 375
Number of Community Partner Agencies: 16
Number of Agency Representatives: 36
Total Number of Volunteers: 100
Summary: This project was completed by a community of many volunteer organizations and it was very good that the Rotary Club of Hilo Bay participated in this event. The homelessness problem will not be solved with one fair and luncheon, but I am sure it will help Hope Services of Hawaii to continue sustaining hope for those who need help.
Rotary Peace Centers
Tim H. shared information on the Rotary Peace Centers program. Part of the Rotary Foundation, the mission of the Rotary Peace Centers is to identify and train highly qualified professionals to become agents of peace as Peace Fellows. To make peace, we need peace-builders. The Peace Centers provide rigorous academic training, applied field experience, and global networking opportunities. Six Rotary Peace Centers operate in partnership with seven premier universities in six countries. If you know of a worthy candidate, the program is designed for professionals who have already worked in careers related to international relations or peace and conflict resolution.
Articulate and passionate, Jazmin Bronco, made our day by giving us hope that our youth are in good hands at the Boys and Girls Club of the Big Island, and that their program is very worthy to receive our fullest support.
