District Grant application deadline was today (July 27).  Two applications received and will be reviewed by the Board.
As part of our membership drive, think about asking your spouse to be a member.  Kevin set the example, with his wife, Margarita, in attendance today on the path to becoming a member.
Katie requested volunteers to help with the aid station for the Volcano Run on August 20.  Clink on link under Upcoming Events for details and to sign up online.

FEATURED MEMBER
Curt Sharp, our newest member, is a local boy with international experience.  Curt grew up in Ola‘a and attended Kamehameha School in Honolulu as a boarder.   He joined the marines where he served combat duty as a Force RECON 2nd Lt. in Vietnam. He extended his duty to help keep his brothers out of the "conflict". He was wounded three times.  After being honorably discharged, Curt returned to San Diego State University and later continued at UH Manoa.  He joined a global logistics company where he was managing director based in Singapore for 12 years.  Other job opportunities managing large projects of military inventory took him to Dubai, Iraq, East Africa, Afghanistan, Uganda, and Somalia.  He finally returned home after 40 years away. It has been difficult reintegrating back home. He has been following the advice from a wise elderly bento shop owner:  slow down, brah!

RCHB FACEBOOK PAGE
Katie Lambert is our Membership Chair with new ideas to reach out, especially to the younger generation.  One communication channel is Facebook.  Katie keeps our Club's Facebook updated and gave our young-at-heart members some quick tips:
  • "Like" our Rotary Club of Hilo Bay Facebook page to get news feeds of any new postings;
  • Post events and photos to publicize current happenings;
  • Like and share specific posts with Friends;
  • Share and increase exposure of our club by inviting Friends;
  • If you become overwhelmed with Facebook notifications, consult with Katie to change settings to filter and control.

RCHB WEB PAGE AND CLUBRUNNER FEATURES
We will be keeping our website current with upcoming events, upcoming speakers, and current news (click the Read More button to go to the Home Page).  Rotary clubs use a common platform called ClubRunner to manage the website and produce the e-bulletin.  Although a challenge to use, ClubRunner allows our club to synchronize attendance and other data with Rotary International and District 5000, as well as access various features to manage our club.  Some of these features include online volunteering for events, online payment (e.g., dues), emailing members, and uploading and accessing club documents (e.g., bylaws).  Thanks to the initiative of Barbara Hastings who had the vision and determination to convert our website to ClubRunner.  If you need assistance logging in, try following the instructions here.  Otherwise, contact Roy for any assistance with the website/ClubRunner.
