Guest Speaker: Susie Osborne, Volcano Rotary Club, took us through Alberta, Canade to Montana, USA to introduce us to the International Peace Park in Alberta and Montana. Besides pictures of natural grandeur, Susie interviewed a retired NPS Ranger who provided the history of the park which was created in 1936 during the middle of the depression by two close allies--Rotary Clubs from Alberta and Rotary Clubs from Montana.
Now, we have a couple of examples of what happens when groups of Rotarians get together and dream big ideas. You get polio eradication in the 1980s and the creation of the UN humanitarian programs in the late 1940s but try to consider a Peace Park being formed in the mid 1930s! The Great War was over for 18 years and totalitarian is were ruising in Italy, Japan and Germany while the depression dragged on at home. Today, you can travel and share the work of these visionaries and attend meeting of the 4 districts that comprise the Waterton Glacier International Peace Park Assc.
