Announcements
Dump Your Change to Dump Polio
Alan O., our Club's Rotary International Foundation chair, reported that contributions are at $543.  With club match, that would fund 1800 polio vaccination shots!  Keep bringing your coins and dollar bills.
 
Dark- No Meeting October 5
To give us more time to prepare for Oktoberfest, there will be no regular meeting on October 5.  The Oktoberfest Committee will meet.
 
HRYF Give Aloha Program
Richard C., urged members to Give Aloha, Foodland's annual community matching gifts program that has now ended on the last day of September.  
 
Dictionary Project
James T. reported that 300 elementary school students have received dictionaries.  There is one more school planned, so stay tuned to volunteer.
 
Upcoming Events
Sign up online for Potential Rotary Leaders Seminar (PRLS) to be held on October 8 at the Hospice of Hilo. Club will pay the fee. President-Elect, club Membership chair, and club Foundation chair must attend.
Participate in the YWCA's Walk A Mile in Her Shoes, the International Men's march to stop rape, sexual assault and gender violence.  Saturday, October 22, 7:30 -  10:00 a.m.  Meet at the YWCA at 145 Ululani Street, Hilo.  Register on walk day or in advance at http://www.ywcahawaiiisland.org

Meet the New HCC Chancellor
 
Our new Chancellor of the Hawaii Community College bikes to work.  That says volumes.  Although a newcomer who started in July 2016, Dr. Rachel Solemsaas fit right in and spoke with the ease, friendliness, and clarity of mission of a long-time fellow community member.  Through her vision, the HCC will inspire students of diverse backgrounds and abilities to reach higher, thereby strengthening our local workforce and families.
