Guest Speaker

Guest Speaker District Governor Naomi Masuno September 23, 2020

Wednesday’s Guest Speaker was our District Governor Naomi Masuno. Naomi discussed how we Rotary has adapted to restrictions during COVID-19. Rotary has donated $20 million to fight COVID-19 around the world and here in Hawaii. “Rotary Opens Opportunities” is Rotary International President Holger Knaack’s theme for this year. This includes being innovative, what is the 5 year vision for our club, selecting new members carefully so they are a good fit, and continuing the effort to end polio. Naomi also discussed how District Grants money is distributed to clubs and projects and why it will be less this year. She gave us some examples of upcoming Rotary Service Opportunities and a Rotary Marketplace so we can support Rotarian owned businesses. She also reminded us to take advantage of the many Webinars, online Rotary Learning Center, and the Leadership Academy. Naomi encouraged us to join the Rotary Fellowships where we can interact with other Rotarians from around the world and to attend the District Conference in May at the Naniloa.

Happy Dollars

Steve Jacunski - ($20) Happy that his daughters came home and have left. He enjoyed the time with them and admired how autocratic they are. He is also happy about Geoli joining our club.

Art Taniguchi - ($20) World Peace Day on 9/21. His daughter helped to introduce the legislation that resulted in Hawaii being the first state to honor World Peace Day. He also shared that his Zoom background was a picture taken the same day as Barry Taniguchi's memorial service.

Miyuki Lee - ($20) Happy to see a "new" Rotarian visit her booth on Saturday, Bob Juettner, and happy to have Misaki and Geoli join our club.

Bob Juettner - ($20) Happy because the Blood Bank called and wants a donation of his blood.

Bryan Lindsay - Announced that owner's parent of Seaside Restaurant recently passed.

Naomi Masumi - ($10) Happy and wanted to thank Sharon, Tim, Mary, and Art for their work in Rotary and the community.

Alan Okinaka - ($10) He made satellite contact with his radio and the 3 Kolrea's in his yard are "fattening up" nicely.

Tim Hansen - ($10) Happy because he got to see Misaki in person.
