Announcements
Rotaract Car Wash @ NAPA Hilo, Feb 11 & 25 (both are Saturdays, 9 am - 2 pm) - fundraiser so please have your cars washed!
 
Relay for Life @ UHH, Mar 10-11 (6 PM on Mar 10 to 6 AM on Mar 11) - burgers on sale by Rotaractors as fundraiser. Separate donations to American Cancer Society are welcome.

District 5000 Meeting

All members encouraged to attend.  This year it will be held at the Sheraton Kaanapali.  Very good rates.

Peace Corps Survey

Any members worked with Peace Corps?  Rotary International is doing a survey.

HRYF

Richard C. reported that 5 applications received so far.  In commemoration of the 40th year of HRYF, we are hoping every member contributes at least $40.  As an added incentive, every $50 is an entry for Richard's special koa box.

RYLA

Sharon S. reported that St Joseph and Keaau students have registered. Anticipate about 80 students from all schools.

Club Social

Katie L. reminded members of the club social Thursday at Cronies, 4:30 - 6:30.

4-Way Test Interview
We recite the 4-way test at the end of every meeting, but do we consciously apply the principles to our daily lives and work?  Our vocational chairperson, Lorraine Davis, will interview members of the Rotary Board about how they think about and apply the 4-way test in their lives, beginning with our current and next year's leaders.
 
Kevin:
Where were you born and raised? Born in NY, but raised all over in Navy family; been in Hawaii since 1988.
What brought you to Hawaii? Create aquaculture program at UHH.
What is your job? Responsible for aquaculture education program.
What did you want to be growing up? marine biologist inspired by Jacques Cousteau; but get sea sick.
Is what you are doing now a culmination of your dreams? Yes
What is the core value that you live by? Is it fair to all concerned.
How long have you been a Rotarian? about 6 years
What is one example of using 4 way test? Is it the truth. Tenure allows him to speak the truth without retribution.
Tip to someone entering workforce? Give fair value to whomever is paying you,
Questions from audience:
Tip for caviar: Will be harvesting again in 2 weeks. Best to eat is on small pancake-like with cream cheese, with a shot of cold vodka.
How harvested: Humanely kill the fish, goes to Suisan, where served at Pond's Resturant and Kohala hotels; certified kitchen to process the eggs.
Dale:
Where born? Hilo
Current occupation? Retired; go to shop as unpaid employee; management of floor and window coverings
Dream as a child? Knew what had to do since took over family business.
College? HCC and Hilo College; accounting and economics
Core values? To be fair to all concerned.
Rotarian? 21 years
Example of using the 4-way test?  Is it the truth? In sales, being straight to customers.
Advice if mentoring? Fit your personality to the job.
