District Conference 2021

  • Will be held for the first time in Hilo commemorating 100 years of Rotary on Big Island on May 14, 15 and 16, 2021.  The event is now 100% virtual.  Volunteers who have skills in videotaping and virtual platforms are requested.  Please contact Alan Kusunoki at aakusunoki@aol.com

District Conference 2023

  • Will be held in Hilo.  The committee is looking for volunteers to help with the planning and a co-chair from East Hawaii.

Future Rotary International Conventions

  • Taipei: June 12-16, 2021 Rotary International has announced that the International Conference will be virtual due to the ongoing threat of the COVID virus.  Stay tuned for further news.

  • Volunteer opportunity  - COVID Vaccine Scheduling for DOH -- Sharon Scheele.  Still looking for volunteers to support the project.  Side note:  Benson Medina sent an email out encouraging folks who have been trained and have already volunteered to consider volunteering more.  Expected that help will be needed through the summer.

  • Diaper Project -- Sharon Scheele and Geoli Ng.  Introduction of Jessica Histo.

  • HRYF -- Richard Cunningham.  Have collected over $4000 for this year.  Richard is still taking contributions.

  • Junior Achievement -- Sharon Scheele.  Sharon has enough volunteers for the session.  Thank you to the folks who volunteered.  Stay tuned for dates for training.

  • Easter and the Foodbasket -- Sharon Scheele.  Sharon and Geoli Ng will be going to the Foodbasket on the 25th to present the checks.

  • April work day -- Deborah Beaver.  April 24th is the work day for all Rotarians around the State.  Stay tuned for more news.

  • Club Social -- James Tyrin  Club social is pushed back to March 25 -- invite a friend to share in the diversity of wines that will be tasted.  James will send an email out.

  • Dictionary Project -- James Tyrin   Update:  Saturday, March 20 has been delayed for filming.  Stay tuned for a new date.

Happy Dollars

Sharon Scheele - ($50) happy for her anniversary and she is designating the funds to HRYF.
Curt Sharp - ($25) happy.  He has a good cup of coffee, he is still kicking and he loves the rain.
Mary Begier - ($25) happy.  $5 for her second COVID shot and $20 to celebrate Tim, Benson, Richard and Steve for the 2nd set of scholarship interviews.
Sandra Wagner-Wright - ($25) happy.  Her health is returning, she got a COVID vaccine and her book is out!
Alan Okinaka - ($20) happy.  He got his second COVID vaccine and gave kudos to Hilo Medical Center for a finely run event.  He mentioned that he got an email from Irene who had a reaction to the vaccine.
David De Luz - ($10) happy.  He reported that Irene is doing better but joining via Zoom is challenging for her.
Randy Hart - ($20) happy and dedicated his dollars to HRYF.
