Volunteer opportunity
State Department of Health and UH Nursing request Rotarians to help for the face mask observation. The purposes of this project are (1) to monitor ongoing use of face masks/coverings by the public in Hawaii and (2) to track social norm change in regard to mask wearing over time. A pair of volunteers will count the number of people who (a) wear the mask correctly, (b) wear the mask in correctly and (c) don't wear the mask at a designated location (Prince Kuhio Plaza, Keaukaha Beach Park (Start at parking lot), Liliuokalani Park or Airport post office) from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Saturdays until November 28. Instructions include the counting device and how to report the counts are available on YouTube:

Guest Speaker
Today’s Guest Speaker, Jim Becker from the Rotary Club of Hilo, discussed the Global Telemedicine Project and the Rotary Global Grant. Approximately 22 hospitals in their Telemedicine network provided a Starter Kit that has basic equipment such as a laptop, webcam, and 1 year Zoom Pro account. They also include a KUBI which is an iPad that is positioned on a tower that rotates that the Doctors can use to teleconference about their patients. The Doctors can also set the KUBI next to a patient and check in on them remotely. The KUBI is manufactured in the US but they try to source the iPad and other items locally. The Global Telemedicine team visited Nepal last year to deliver the Starter Kit and KUBI to a rural hospital. While there they also trained the local IT staff so they could set up the KUBIs. Jim also shared beautiful pictures of his fly over of Mt. Everest and other areas that they had the opportunity to go to during the visit.

Happy Dollars
Art Tanguchi - ($5) Contributed to ask what we could do to support the Veteran's home at this time. Rotarians in Action ensued. Doug Adams responded that a card campaign would be the easier to do and he will get information from the home to help support this. If we opt to do more, Virginia and Bob Juettner, Mary Begier, and Miyuki Lee are willing to be on a committee to determine what kinds of projects would be appropriate.
