Guest Speaker
Guest Speaker Ruth Sanchez, Executive Director Project C.U.R.E., August 12, 2020
Today’s Guest Speaker was Ruth Sanchez, Executive Director for Project C.U.R.E in Arizona. Project C.U.R.E began as a non-profit in 1987. Ruth joined them 2 years ago and in that time she has sent thirty 40 foot containers of medical supplies to underserved countries around the world. The non-profit operates in 7 states and each chapter procures bio-medical equipment and supplies through partnerships with hospitals, clinic, hospice, etc. They have 25,000 volunteers across the United States who spent more than 160,000 hours of collecting, sorting, packing, and delivering the donated items in 2019. They have partnerships in 138 countries and they will be shipping 23 containers in September. Examples of their projects are Kits for Kids where they distribute backpacks filled with basic medicine cabinet supplies, C.U.R.E Kits which are 48 pound pre-packed kits filled with medical supplies that can be easily transported, and C.U.R.E. Clinics where they set pop up clinics.
When the pandemic hit in March their CEO realized they had to pivot and their response and they began distributing about $3,000,000 worth of supplies back to partners who had donated items in the past.
Tom Witthans - ($28) Happy for 28 years of happy marriage. His words of wisdom: Mary - Never go to bed angry. Tom - As you wish.
Alan Okinaka - ($10) $5 for Richard and Mary reporting that they have seen returning Kolea and $5 for great voter turnout.
Mary Begier - ($10) Happy and wants to echo Alan's sentiments about voter turnout.
Virginia and Bob Juettner - ($10) Happy for seeing Ruth Sanchez join the meeting.
Tim Hansen - ($5) Happy his brother-in-law had a knee replacement and all went well.
Marlene Norton - ($5) Happy her son, who is fighting fires will be returning home to his family.
Art Taniguchi - ($5) Announcement. Aloha Monday is donating part of their proceeds to support the Ed Hara's family who lost their son in an accident. Aloha Monday is doing this through the end of the month.
Doug Adams - ($10) Happy for the project we did at the Boys and Girls Club.
Geoli Ng - ($10) Happy to be at the meeting.
Barbara Hastings - ($5) Happy, but wonders if Alan had mixed her and Mary up - apparently a common occurrence in the community. Alan confirmed he should have acknowledged that it was Barbara who saw the Kolea and told Mary that since he had given her credit, she needs to look for one too.
