Today's Inspiration and Quote
“At the end of the day, it's not about what you have or even what you've accomplished. It's about what you've done with those accomplishments. Its about who you've lifted up, who you've made better. It about what you've given back"
- Denzel Washington
Quote of the day:
"At a dinner party one should eat wisely but not too well, and talk well but not too wisely."
- W. Somerset Maugham
Guests
Kala Van Veen, soon to be high school graduate and 2020 recipient of a Hawaii Rotary Youth Foundation scholarship, spoke to our club about her future and what she appreciates about Rotary.
Kala plans to attend UH-Hilo and pursue a degree in education, intending to become an English teacher and remain in Hawaii once she graduates. Although she considered mainland colleges, Kala came to the realization that UH-Hilo offers a quality education at an affordable cost, allowing her to minimize any resulting debt.
Kala has been President of the Interact club at Waiakea High School and plans to join Rotaract at UH-Hilo as a means to continue to serve the community and remain connected to Rotary. She appreciates the opportunities and personal growth that have come her way as a result of participating in the Interact club and visiting Japan as part of the Sunao Wada Foundation's exchange of students between Hilo and Hiroshima.
