Club Christmas Party Update
Thank you to Mike C. for planning this year's club Christmas Party held on Sunday, December 11, at Liko Lehua Restaurant.
Rainbow Pride
James T. has coordinated with Hilo Union Elementary School to distribute books at the Rainbow Pride assembly. Need volunteers for December 19 and 20 at 1:00 p.m.
Hospice Light-up a Life
James T. announced that all volunteer slots have been filled for December 10. Thank you, members!
Hawaii Rotary Youth Foundation (HRYF)
Richard C. announced the official start of a new season to support HRYF. Tax deductible for end-of-year tax planning.
In lieu of a speaker, Kevin led a Club Assembly to step back and discuss "What would you like to see done as a club?" Rotary's five areas of service was used to organize the discussion. Ideas discussed included:
Club Service-- focuses on club to make it strong
More social events
Bring a friend
Breakfast meetings at different places-- e.g., catered at a member's work place
Vocational Service-- fosters high ethical standards in business
More speakers from our members of our club to get to know members
Focus on speakers in business (not government) to get a pulse on what is going on
Interactive speakers and non-vocational (fun)-- e.g., yoga
Community Service-- no comments
International Service-- no comments
Youth Service-- no comments
Mathis Bergay, Exchange Student from France
Mathis presented an update of his experience. He made the basketball JV team; amazing way to make friends. Helped with Iron Man, Salvation Army Thanksgiving, and other volunteer events. He is now selling cookies to raise money for travel since his parents have already spent so much. Contact David Hurd to support Mathis.
Next Year's Club Officers Nominations Dave D. and Dale T. switched places to accommodate Dave's pressing family obligations. Dale presented his slate of nominations. Motion made and unanimously accepted for nominations. The list will be published in the next newsletter.
Happy Dollars & Recognitions
David Hurd (guest Rotarian)- Donated $50 in recognition of those who have supported youth scholarship Alan O.- Thank you to those who participated in the lunch for the homeless; prepared a completion report (included in previous newsletter) Miyuki L.- Just returned from Japan. Visited friends who were survivors of tsunami and admired their strength Mary B.- Enjoyed Gumps in SF, a delightful store. Yu Yok P.- Visited son in San Jose. Carol Van Camp fell and hurt knee; had surgery and now recovering. Sharon S.- Attended Rotary membership mtg in Honolulu and got some good ideas. Pete M.- 80th birthday; happy to be here. Karolyn L.- Sad dollars for Rosemary Linden's (Tuesday club) husband funeral this Sunday.
