Announcements
May 11 Club Social and Vocational Services
One Gallery (Deborah B.) is bringing in artists who have their work displayed in the gallery. The artists will talk about their work and some will demonstrate their techniques and skills.  Plenty pupus.  Bring guests and potential Rotarians.
 
May 19-21 District Meeting
District meeting, May 19-21, Sheraton Kaanapali.  Check D5000 website for registration, etc.
 
Women in Rotary
Sharon S. announced that May 4 is the 30th anniversary when women were invited into Rotary. It took a Supreme Court challenge. Two women have joined our club since the last anniversary-- Jo-Anna Herkes and Dayday Hopkins. 
 
HRYF
Richard C. held the drawing for the koa box.  The winner is . . . . . . Mike Carroll, who gave the box to his wife for her birthday.
 
Oktoberfest
Curt S. and Dave D. are co-chairs.  Monthly meetings to start.  Save the date for the first Saturday in October (October 7),  4:00-8:00.  We will have all day on Saturday and Friday evening to setup.
Stories
Climate Change, Rapid Ohia Death, and Other Hot Topics
We depend on our native forests as a watershed for drinking water and to purify our air by sequestering the overload in carbon we cause.  Fire, invasive species, climate change, and other impacts on our forests are important to our livelihoods.  Dr. Christian Giardina of the U.S. Forest Service is at the forefront of research on the health of our forests.  Interestingly, his message was not what the scientists are doing, but what we can all do by engaging with nature.
