State Department of Health and UH Nursing request Rotarians to help for the face mask observation. The purposes of this project are (1) to monitor ongoing use of face masks/coverings by the public in Hawaii and (2) to track social norm change in regard to mask wearing over time. A pair of volunteers will count the number of people who (a) wear the mask correctly, (b) wear the mask in correctly and (c) don't wear the mask at a designated location (Prince Kuhio Plaza, Keaukaha Beach Park (Start at parking lot), Liliuokalani Park or Airport post office) from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Saturdays until November 28. Instructions include the counting device and how to report the counts are available on YouTube:

Guest Speaker
Guest Speaker Junichi Noumaru, Rotary Foundation Chair, November 4, 2020
On Wednesday’s meeting Past President Junichi discussed the money flow of The Rotary Foundation. The first donation was in 1917 from the Rotary Club of Kansas City in the amount of $26.50. The 2018-2019 Rotary Year total expenditures totaled $335,000,000. Funds may be used for any of Rotary’s seven areas of focus. The majority of the funds went to Polio Plus and District Grants. According to Charity Navigator, The Rotary Foundation has earned the best rating as a charity organization, scoring 100 out of a possible 100 points. This is due to high program expenses, low administrative and fundraising expenses, high program expense growth, and high accountability and transparency performance. Junichi shared the chart showing how the money is distributed if you chose to donate to the Annual Fund, 50% to the District Designated Fund and 50% to the World Fund and it is distributed further from there. Three years ago our Club raised $8,035.00; so far this year we have raised $2,801.58. In RY 2019-2020 our Club awarded District Grant Funds to sponsor Pacific Island Youth Empowerment Summit at UH Hilo and Hawaii Island RYLA. So far in RY 2020-2021 we have awarded funds to the YWCA Preschool Program. For this Rotary Year President Lorraine has set the goal of contributing $5,000.00 to the Annual Fund and we are currently at $1,161.00. You can visit myrotary.org to donate.
