Guest Speaker
Guest Speaker, Miyuki Lee, Owner Kayama, LLC
Today Miyuki discussed her company, Kayama Coffee, LLC. In 2016 a friend in Japan asked for help in sending Hawaii Coffee to Japan for her coffee shop. After visiting several coffee farms on the Island, they finally found Ka'u Ocean Vista Coffee Estate who was willing to sell to them. In order to ship the coffee, Miyuki created the export company. Currently she exports wholesale green beans to Japan, supports her clients with personal branding and offers weekly Zoom meetings. In Hawaii, Miyuki direct sells roasted and ground coffee wholesale to Honolulu clients and holds a booth on Saturday mornings at the Kino'ole Farmer’s Market. Looking to the future, she would like to introduce more items from the Big Island, establish a Kayama branch in Japan and begin importing items to Hawaii, expand the business to Taiwan, negotiate a better rate for international shipping, and hire part-time or full-time employees.
At our last meeting Miyuki invited Rotarians to visit her booth at the Kino'ole Farmer’s Market and pick up a sample of coffee that we could make together at today’s meeting. She demonstrated how to use the bags and mentioned the key to using the drip bag is having a little patience while pouring the hot water into the bag. The sample bags are available for sale at her booth. One pack contains 4 coffees; one each from Ka'u, Kona, Kauai, and Oahu.
