Today's Inspiration and Quote

"Instead of letting your hardships and failures discourage or exhaust you, let them inspire you. Let them make you even hungrier to succeed."
            - Michelle Obama
Quote of the day:
"The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others. Mahatma means great-souled and honorific"
             - Mohandas Karamchand Ghandi

Guests

Great to see Jan Abundo, a prospective member to our club from Barbara Hastings!
It was also great to see Ken Barnes, another prospective member from Preston Barnes.  To Ken's right is Len Pagan of Guild Mortgage, guest of James Tyrin.

Open Meeting

Last Saturday, the Hawai’i Island YMCA Walk a Mile in her shoes march that promotes an end to rape, sexual assault and family violence was held.  For over 40 years, the YWCA of Hawai`i Island has been providing sexual assault support services for both victims and survivors; women, men, girls and boys ranging from ages ninety to less than a year old.

Our club with additional motivation provided by Steve Jacunski’s pledge to once again shave his lower extremities, raised $1,240 for this important cause.  Andy Kahili and Kathleen McGilvray were on hand to present a trophy to the club for its continued participation.  The club’s trophy was accepted by President Junichi, while Kathleen also presented a special trophy and a gift (1-night stay and dinner at the Naniloa) to Steve Jacunski to show appreciation for his second consecutive appearance in the walk with his newly shaved legs.  Although the pledge level by the club’s members increased after Steve offered to shave above his knees this time, there was no need to officially verify where the shaving terminated.

President Junichi with the help of past Presidents David and Dale, presented amendments to the club’s by-laws which were unanimously approved.  The amendments address club events with alcohol present, electronic voting and method of electing members.

President Junichi led a general discussion on how the club can best honor and remember Barry Taniguchi.  There is consensus that we would like to support students entering the field of medicine and healthcare in a way that is sustainable/perpetual while not limiting the support to one school or medical field.  More details to come as possibilities are examined.
