Virginia reported that the Veterans Day drive has been postponed due to other activities going on. We still plan to drop off the items that have been collected on November 10 for the patients of the facility. The Veteran's home suggests a drive by around Thanksgiving, date to be determined. Ipad purchase isn't finalized, but we are getting there. Virginia wanted to acknowledge Miyuki, Hirona and Steven's contribution of orchids for the patients at the facility.
District Auction -- Mary Begier
Mary communicated via L. Davis that the auction has been extended to November 2 and she is still accepting auction items for bidding. She asked that you fill out the auction form that was sent out previously and submit a picture of the item and she will put it on the website. Those who has done a "buy it now" purchase cannot pay for the item just yet. More information to follow.

State Department of Health and UH Nursing request Rotarians to help for the face mask observation. The purposes of this project are (1) to monitor ongoing use of face masks/coverings by the public in Hawaii and (2) to track social norm change in regard to mask wearing over time. A pair of volunteers will count the number of people who (a) wear the mask correctly, (b) wear the mask in correctly and (c) don't wear the mask at a designated location (Prince Kuhio Plaza, Keaukaha Beach Park (Start at parking lot), Liliuokalani Park or Airport post office) from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Saturdays until November 28. Instructions include the counting device and how to report the counts are available on YouTube:
If you have any question, please contact Dr. Glauberman (glauberm@hawaii.edu).

Guest Speaker
Guest Speaker Richard Cunningham October 28, 2020
On Wednesday our Guest Speaker, Richard Cunningham, shared photos of his family’s trip to Africa. They visited Ruaha which is the largest protected area in Tanzania. The Park is larger than the Big Island and they rarely saw other visitors. The 4 of them, along with a Guide, travelled in a specially made safari vehicle. They were able to get close to many of the animals but it was not recommended to get out of the vehicle. The few times they were able to get out and walk in the bush they were instructed to walk single file with an armed guide in the front and the back. Richard shared many pictures of Cape Buffalo, Impalas, Elephants, Zebras and other African animals. He also said that Ruaha is a wonderful place to birdwatch since it is home to 571 bird species. They also were able to take a river safari on the Sand River which was welcoming after travelling around on the bumpy roads. After the safari they spent some time in Zanzibar before returning home.
