Welcome to another issue of our weekly bulletin! Find out what we covered during the last weekly meeting, and what we learned from our speaker.
Announcements
Grant Award to Hope Services
Alan O. presented a grant award from our club to Hope Services to further their services to the homeless.
Appreciation to Yacht Club
We are so fortunate to have such a fantastic person who comes before daybreak to setup and attend to our needs, always with a smile. In appreciation to Ruth, the club passed the hat for a $300 thank you.
Food Basket Donations
Sharon S. is collecting donations to the Food Basket. She has much aloha to the Food Basket because her grand-daughter, Tiara, won the contest to re-brand the organization with the current name and logo.
HRYF 2017
Richard C. is offering a koa box this year. Every donation of $50 will secure an entry into the drawing (e.g., $100 would be two entries). The drawing is to be held in April 2017 at the time the scholarship winners are announced. Hawaii Rotary Youth Foundation (HRYF) is Hawaii's largest private scholarship-- $250,000 awarded in 2016 for 48 scholarships. Each club in District 5000 may sponsor one $5000 scholarship to a student of their choice. Donations are credited to the club and donors receive a tax-deductible acknowledgement.
It's all about helping people get back on their feet with a job. Steven Harris explained Goodwill Hawaii's Supporting Employment Empowerment (SEE) Program and how local business owners can benefit by employing one of Steven's clients.
Previous HRYF scholarship winner, Fiona Follet, and her mother. Fiona is studying to be a mechanical engineer at Cal Poly.
