District Conference 2021

  • Will be held for the first time in Hilo commemorating 100 years of Rotary on Big Island on May 14, 15 and 16, 2021.  The event is now 100% virtual.  Volunteers who have skills in videotaping and virtual platforms are requested.  Please contact Alan Kusunoki at aakusunoki@aol.com

District Conference 2023

  • Will be held in Hilo.  The committee is looking for volunteers to help with the planning and a co-chair from East Hawaii.
 

Future Rotary International Conventions

  • Taipei: June 12-16, 2021 Rotary International has announced that the International Conference will be virtual due to the ongoing threat of the COVID virus.  Stay tuned for further news.

  • Volunteer opportunity  - COVID Vaccine Scheduling for DOH -- Sharon Scheele.  There are still volunteers needed for 3 hour shifts.  She will send out the link to be able sign up to volunteer for 3 hour shifts.

  • Diaper Project -- Sharon Scheele and Geoli Ng.  Geoli's company, Waiakea Water is going to be doing a month long drive in March to raise funds and/or purchase diapers for Hawaii Diaper.  Stay tuned for more information.  

  • HRYF -- Richard Cunningham.  Kim K. announced that we interviewed four applicants for scholarships and we have a winner!  Kacie Tagawa was chosen to receive $5000 in scholarship.  Richard encouraged us to contribute to HRYF.  So far, there have been approximately $2000 contributed.

  • RYLA -- Tim Hansen  RYLA is February 26 and 27th.  There are approximately 100 participants expected.  Still looking for volunteers to deliver survival kits and pizza to East Hawaii participants.  Tim said we are still looking for support -- there are 88 students enrolled and they are still accepting students to the event.

Happy Dollars

Art Taniguchi - $20 happy.  He is happy to see Toby T., Naomi M. and Doug A.  He shared that he was in a presentation with Doug and said that Doug represents the County very well.
Steve Jacunski - $10 because Junichi N. and Mike C. work in keeping the Zoom meetings going.
Mary Begier - $10 happy and found a new phrase for Steve J. of "four women in the house" and it is "he lives in an estrogen filled world."  She saw this on television and thought of Steve.
David De Luz - $20 to honor both Paula U. and Anita C. for helping with getting the storage unit cleaned out.
Doug Adams - $20 happy to honor Michelle F., Naomi M. being at the meeting and to thank Art T. for his gracious words.
Naomi Masuno - $20 happy.  She recognized members of RCHB for their contributions to Rotary.  She mentioned Lorraine D., Tim H., Michelle F., Mary B., Richard C., Art T. and Sharon S.
Virginia Juettner - $10 happy.  She enjoyed the Board Training on Saturday, they found yet another peace pole in Kona and the painting project is finished and they can occupy the rooms again.
Junichi Noumaru - $10 happy and echoed Virginia's comments about the training on February 13 at District 5000.
Alan Okinaka - $10 happy in that after interviewing the scholarship applicants and he is regaining confidence in our future.  He is also contemplating doing the Camino de Santiago.
