Lincoln Ashida introduced us to PUEO - Perpetuating Unique Educational Opportunities
A moment of this beautiful Wednesday morning

Guest Speaker: Lincoln Ashida

Lincoln Ashida spoke to the club on behalf of Perpetuating Unique Educational Opportunities, Inc., ("PUEO"), a non-profit dedicated to enhancing the educational opportunities of Hawaii's youth and their communities.  http://alohapueo.org/about-us/

Mr. Ashida previously served as Corporation Counsel for Hawaii County (12/00 to 4/14) and is a former deputy prosecuting attorney for Hawaii County.  Presently, he is Senior Counsel at Torkildson, Katz, Hetherington, Harris & Knorek, Attorneys at Law where he specializes in Business and Employment Litigation.            https://www.torkildson.com/our-attorneys/lincoln-s-t-ashida/

Lincoln brought his unique perspective to the current situation on Mauna Kea and the approved construction of TMT as a former public servant, deputy prosecutor and present litigator.  He led his law firm in providing pro bono legal services to PUEO as an intervenor in the TMT contested case.

The reason for PUEO's intervention was to ensure that the voices of the most senior members of the organization, most of whom are Native Hawaiians from the Keaukaha-Panaewa Hawaiian Homesteads, were allowed to formally express their support of TMT and its economical and educational impact on Hawaii island.

Although the current protest and the manner in which it has been handled between the County and State has been controversial, Lincoln made clear that everyone is entitled to their beliefs on what should happen on the Mauna and the elders of PUEO feel that everyone has a place at the table when it comes to settling differences for the good of all.
