Communications

Announcements, Director / Committee Chair report

  • Volunteer opportunity  - COVID Vaccine Scheduling for DOH -- Sharon Scheele.  There are still volunteers needed for 3 hour shifts.  She will send out the link to be able sign up to volunteer for 3 hour shifts.

  • Diaper Project -- Sharon Scheele and Geoli Ng.  The flyer for the event is almost ready to go out.  Geoli will send it as soon as it is ready.  Her current request of RCHB is to spread the word to friends, family and acquaintances.  There will be a link on how to donate on the flyer.  Geoli said that they do not take open packages of diapers due to COVID and other health concerns.  Tim H. put in the chat box that CFS might want opened packages for their DV shelter.

  • HRYF -- Richard Cunningham.  Richard gave us a short tour of his woodshop and had 3 pieces of mango that he had pulled for the box he will be making.  He asked the club -- straight edge or natural edge -- since he is making his box to community specs.  Overwhelmingly, the club responded natural edge.

  • RYLA -- Tim Hansen  RYLA is February 26 and 27th.  Tim reported that there are over 100 participants and RYLA will happen this weekend.  It should be noted that Tim had an awesome background picture that showed RYLA.  He reported that there has been a background picture made for every RYLA pod that the students will be assigned to.

  • Junior Achievement -- Sharon Scheele.  JA will be teaching classes virtually this year and Sharon is looking for volunteers to teach.  There will be training available for the volunteers.  Please contact Sharon if you are interested in being a JA volunteer at the elementary level.

  • Easter and the Foodbasket -- Sharon Scheele.  In line with holiday traditions, Sharon is urging us to make contributions to the Foodbasket in time for Easter (April 4).  You can make a check out to the Foodbasket, so you can tax benefits, and send the check to Sharon and she will make sure the Foodbasket receives the checks and knows that RCHB is supporting them.

  • Lorraine shared with the club that YuYok has been diagnosed with Stage 3 Lung Cancer.  She has undergone surgery and is now facing additional treatment for this aggressive cancer.  Lorraine asked that members reach out to YuYok and hold her and her family in their hearts.

Recognitions/Announcements

We have a rising star in our midst!  Steven Sylvester was in Hawaii News Now at KGMB Monday morning as a BOH commentator.  For those who are interested, here is the link to the story:

The club wanted to know what kind of fine Steven will need to pay given that a color picture in the newspaper only brings in about $25.  Whatever fine is determined, David D. and Mary B. will match that fine with the monies going to HRYF scholarship.

Happy Dollars

Keep your happy dollar donation in an envelope and bring it to the next in-person meeting, send a check to RCHB, PO Box 11506 or pay via credit card from our new online payment system: https://checkout.square.site/pay/f12444a0473348a5b24ff79bc663be77

Lorraine D. is $20 happy.  She got her first COVID shot at the tennis stadium and it was a highly organized and efficient event.

Alan O. is $10 happy.  $5 is for a very smooth COVID vaccination event and $5 because he has signed up to go to the Rotary International project in Bhutan this coming fall.

Paula U. is $10 happy.  She appreciates that David D. offered his garage for RCHB items while things are being sorted out.  Lorraine added that Pete M. has donated his shirt inventory to RCHB to sell.

Miyuki L. is $20 happy.  $10 for Steven being on television and $10 for well-wishes for YuYok.

Michelle F. is $15 happy -- it's her oldest son's 11th birthday.

Tim H. is $100 happy and wants to honor his younger brother's 54th birthday by earmarking the $100 to HRYF.
