Guest Speakers: Interact Students from St. Joseph High School will speak on their future community projects for 2025-26.
 
  • External Project - MEDIC Kits – stands for Medical – Essential – Distribute – In the Community.
In 2024-25, 110 MEDIC Kits were made last year. Goal for this year is to double the amount.
  • MEDIC Kit Contents: Band-Aids, Compressed towelettes, Sanitary pads, Antiseptic wipes, Toothpaste, Toothbrush, Dental Floss, Sunscreen, Bar of soap, Neosporin.
  • Internal Project - Repainting School Railings at St. Joe for campus beautification, slated for Sept.’25.
  • Internal Project - First Fundraiser of the Year: Bake cookies & brownies to sell to the students at the school snack bar. Also sell at PTG Meeting to reach students, parents and community members.  Goal: Sell over 60 items. Net Proceeds will go towards external and internal projects.
  • Halloween Event – Still in planning stages: Trick or Treat Haunted House, Costume Contest and a Movie Night.

Announcements:
Mary Begier announced our Club Social event will be held on Thursday, 4-6pm, Aug. 28 at John & Mo Gapp’s House. If you plan to attend, bring a pupu dish for 4-6 people, Mead will be provided or BYOB.
 
Foodland’s Give Aloha Campaign September 1-30, 2025, Supports Hawaii Rotary Youth Foundation!
The BEST and EASIEST way to donate to HRYF, is by making donations to Foodland during their Give Aloha Campaign. Your donation assists high school seniors in furthering their university education. A percentage of your donations will be matched by Foodland and Western Union and given to HRYF.
  • To donate, go to any Foodland, Sack N’ Save or Foodland Farms with the Maika’I Card. (If you don’t have one, you can sign up at the store,) and designate the amount you want to
      donate to HRYF or use the organization code – 77199.
  • Alan Okinaka – The Rotaract Club at UH-Hilo is officially a club with 6 members!
  • Sharon Sheele - Volunteers needed for Jr. Achievement this Fall at Waiakea Elementary School. Please see Sharon if you’re interested and available in volunteering for J.A.
  • 1st. Grade (1 class), Mondays & Thursday, 11:45-12:45pm.
  • 3rd Grade (5 classes) Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays: 12:45–1:35pm
  • 3rd Grade Wednesdays: 12:10–1pm  
 
25th Annual Oktoberfest:
  • James Tyrin reported the sponsor letters have gone out. Mahalo to the Interact Club at St. Joseph High School, who folded letters and stuffed 500 envelopes.  Requesting all club members to send out a request to prospective donors and sponsors, to support our event that supports community projects.   • Donations needed for auction items. If you know of any companies that could donate; gift cards; baskets, services, restaurants, specialty stores, artwork, etc.
  • Radio promotion ads start on Sat. 8/30/25

$25 – Mary Begier – On the birth of Pete & Roberta Mueller’s great-granddaughter; Hazel Ku’ulei Heuerman, arrived 8/25/25, at 4:40pm, 7 pounds, 1oz, 20-1/4 inches long.  Mom and baby are doing well!
 
$20 – Chester Cabral – Had a wonderful time with my daughter and son-in-law in Portugal, especially in Sao Miguel (Azores) where my great-grandfather came from.
 
$10 – Alan Okinaka – Had cataract surgery and is now missing wearing his glasses.
$10 – Virginia Juettner – New refrigerator arrived and is working!!
 
$10 – Anita Cunningham – Thanked the club for the beautiful Anniversary flower bouquet!
 
$10 – Steven Sylvester - Steve Jacunski called him the other evening and they had a great conversation. He was very happy with the card he received from Patrick Bodell.
Also, Steven’s boys are growing up fast! They have a goodbye ensemble now, as the boys stand on the sofa and wave out the window to their dad!  Also, Wyatt says goodbye in Japanese!
 
President Tim Hansen enhanced the meeting format with a socializing exercise, “Getting to Know You” where each member seated at the tables, asked the question: What things do you do to maintain peace and balance in our life? Social exchanges were made. We learned a lot about each other! 😊
