Happy Dollars:
Keep your happy dollar donation in an envelope and bring it to the next in-person meeting. You may contact Deborah Beaver to make a payment with your credit card or mail your check to the club. Thank you.
In addition, you may now pay from our new online payment system:
Chester Cabral: There are two District Grant available. The match grant has been set aside for RYLA. The no match grant RFP is available for non-profits to apply for and application form is on Hilo Bay Rotary website.
If anyone has difficulty accessing the application, they can contact Chester or Lorraine and they can email the application out. This year's amount is $576 and the due date for submitting the application is July 14, COB so the Board can review and select the recipient.
Alan Okinaka - He had sent out the club membership lists to members and he requested that we review them and make any corrections. He will update the lists again and send them out within the week.
Art Taniguchi - The Hongwanji is offering a course in conversational Japanese and Calligraphy and if anyone is interested in taking the course, to contact him. If there is enough interest by the club, he thinks they might be able to set up a course for just us.
Lorraine Davis - The Vocational Chair is still open and if anyone is interested in taking on the task to please contact her.

“Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It's not."

Rotarian Speaker: Mike Carroll
Rotarian Speaker- Mike Carroll, President Elect
“Meeting, Make-up & Who’s Counting”
Mike Carroll spoke to the Club today about the changes in attendance that went into effect July 1, 2020.
Our Wednesday Zoom Meetings are now counted as a Regular Meeting; prior to July they were counted as make-ups. If you miss a meeting the make-up can be done anytime during the Rotary Year, July 1 -June 30.
The list of make-up opportunities is now larger. You can attend another Club’s Meeting- in person or via Zoom, watch a Rotary Webinar, D5000 holds a monthly Zoom Meting and East Hawaii holds a weekly Zoom Meeting. The rice re-bagging project, dictionary distribution, water station at the race, attending a Board of Directors Meeting, and monthly socials can still be used as make-ups. Zoom doesn’t track who attends so if you go to any of these meeting please email Mike so he can update your attendance record in ClubRunner.
Mike also discussed the Rule of 85. If a Rotarian’s age and years in Rotary add up to 85 or higher they are eligible for Exempted Status. If you show up for the meeting it counts; if you don’t show up it doesn’t count against you. This status is not automatic so if you believe you qualify please let the Board of Directors know so they can begin the process.
The link to the meeting video is below and you can contact Mike if you have any questions.
Alan Okinaka - ($15) Happy that he has resigned from the Bay Clinic BoD which has lightened his to do list considerably. He was able to have an interesting experience during his visit to Kalani Cone. He claims with the road condition there, the bottle of cream he would've had probably become cream when he reached Kalani Cone. Finally, he made the prudent decision to cancel an Alaskan Fishing trip.
Marcia Sakai - ($6) Happy for 6 years of great experiences in Rotary.
Marlene Norton - ($5) Happy for her 5 years in Rotary
Barbara Hastings - ($5) Happy for the rice bagging experience and social at Richard Cunningham's Frame Shop.
Art Taniguchi - ($5) Sad as he reflected on former member Calvin Shindo's passing. He provided a brief history of Calvin's life and remembers him fondly.
Virginia and Bob Juettner - ($10) Happy to get lychee from one of the biggest lychee trees on their property. Also sad because neighbors pig wandered onto their property and died. Mary Begier recommended them of a former Rotarian that specializes in large animal removal/disposal and will send them the contact.
Junichi Noumaru - ($10) Happy as he also enjoyed the rice bagging project and welcomed Misaki to the meeting.
Miyuki Lee - ($10) Happy for Misaki joining the meeting and hopes she will join our club. Miyuki also invited Rotarians to visit her Farmers Market booth to get a complimentary single serve coffee packet which she will introduce at her presentation at next weeks meeting.
Chester Cabral - ($10) Happy about the social at Richard Cunningham's Frame Shop.
Richard Cunningham - ($5) Happy he brought 6 bottles of beer to the social and came back with 11 bottles of beer (not empties).
Lorraine Davis - ($10) Happy as she enjoyed seeing folks in person at the rice bagging event and social.
