A series of D5000 Rotary webinars is available for your viewing, either live or recorded. You can also find ton of webinars in the Learning Center at rotary.org: https://learn.rotary.org/members/learn/catalog
Will be held for the first time in Hilocommemorating 100 years of Rotary on Big Island at Grand Naniloa Hotel on May 14, 15 and 16, 2021.
The District is looking for volunteers to head up the decorations for the Conference. If you are interested in being a part of the committee (or even leading the committee) please contact me.
Alan Kusunoki, the chair of the District Conference, said that the RI's decision about the 2021 convention in Taipei what will be made in early February will be a good guidance for our District Conference.

Volunteer opportunity - Continuing through January, 2021 -- Junichi Noumaru
State Department of Health and UH Nursing request Rotarians to help for the face mask observation. One or a pair of volunteers will count the number of people who (a) wear the mask correctly, (b) wear the mask in correctly and (c) don't wear the mask at a designated location from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Saturdays:
Prince Kuhio Plaza (Zippy's)
Airport Post Office
Target/Walmart/Safeway
Hilo Farmers Market
Since Saturday morning is a favorite time slot for webinars/meetings by D5000, the host is considering to widen the time frame in the Saturday afternoon.
If you have any question, please contact Dr. Glauberman (glauberm@hawaii.edu).
Richard Cunningham - HRYF
Richard explained that HRYF is for scholarships for students and for every $50 raised, the donor receives a chance at winning an incentive that Richard plans to build. He did a poll on whether we want a box or a mirror. Survey says: Box. There will be another survey on the type of wood used. So stay tuned.
Sharon has volunteered for three different shifts and urges fellow Rotarians to volunteer with this project. There are three people plus supervisors in a partitioned area of Aunty Sally's that work to schedule vaccine appointments for the 75 years and above Big Islanders. She reported that there are safety and health precautions taken very seriously and she felt safe in going on site to help with the project.
RYLA -- Tim Hansen
Tim acknowledged folks who have volunteered or provided items for RYLA participants and on Thursday, he and Geoli will be putting the kits together for distribution. RYLA has also opened up for 9th and 12th graders, so applicants are still being accepted.

Guest Speaker
Guest Speaker Junichi Noumaru January 27 2021
Wednesday’s Guest Speaker was Junichi giving us a Zoom tutorial. He went over the basics such as virtual backgrounds, how to set up a presentation, participants and chat and other items. Zoom is compatible with many devices, just the interface might be a little different. If you see a black background the version is old and you will want to update your application. To create a virtual background you can use the backgrounds provided or upload an image from your computer by clicking on “add image”. Junichi suggested setting up your background prior to entering the meeting but if you want to change it during the meeting simply click on the carrot by the “start video” icon. To set up speakers, microphone, or headphones click on audio and chose the device from the dropdown menu and click on the test button to make certain it is working correctly. If you want to see the participants or the chat option click on the “participants” button. If you don’t see the button it may be hidden under “more”. To share your windows click on the “share screen” button then choose the power point you want and click share. To end sharing click on the red “stop share” button. Other pointers Junichi shared are to keep the presentation simple, prepare before your presentation, restart Windows before joining the meeting, update Zoom and Windows when prompted and test your devices to see what the screen sharing looks like. Be prepared and happy Zoom life!
