Meeting Notes – June 3, 2026
Call to Order
President Tim Hansen brought the meeting to order at 7:00.
Opening Activities
The meeting opened with Michelle Flemming leading the Pledge, followed by an inspirational moment from Bryan Lindsey:
“Here’s to it and from it and to it again, if you ever get to it and don’t do it, you may never get to do it, again.”

- Please register for Jan’s installation ceremony on Wednesday, July 1st. This will count as a regular club meeting but we need a headcount by June 19th, as this meeting will be held at the Hilo Woman’s Club. Register here. - It’s time to pay your annual club dues; invoices have been sent out. Pay by cash, check or credit card (a service fee will be added to cover payment processing fees).
- DDF Grants: Proposed match for RYLA and non-match for St. Joseph’s Interact Club along with international grant TBD – club approved.
- Jan, Patrick and Alan will attend the Non-Profit Board Training Session at Kuikahi Mediation Center on Thursday the 4th.
- Mary Begier announced that the annual Volcano Ohia Lehua Run will be held on 7/25 and is looking for volunteers to work the hydration station on the corner of Amaumau Rd and Wright Road in Volcano, beginning at 6:30am. A sign-up sheet next will be available starting next week.
- Nancy reminded everyone to register for the D5000 District Conference in Honolulu, August 21st-23rd

Alan informed us that the average rain drop has 1.5 sextillion H2O molecules. That’s 15 with 20 zeros! If you counted from 1 to 1.5 sextillion, it would take you 37 trillion years!
Tim had $3.00 for the 3 of 7 flights that went well during a recent trip to Atlanta.
Kathleen announced that the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life will be held on Saturday, July 18th from 4-9pm. Members are encouraged to form a team, register as a survivor, dedicate a luminaria, become a sponsor or volunteer. More info at www.relayforlife.org/hilo.
Mary shared that she had a wonderful trip to attend her niece’s wedding.
Guest Speaker/Presentation
President Tim and District Governor, Nancy Cabral, officially installed our newest member, Lisa LaMorte-Williams, sponsored by Lorraine Davis. Lisa was then warmly welcomed by club members.
President Tim presented Brandee Menino, Executive Director, Hope Services, with a donation of $5,064, raised at our 1st Annual Food Fight for Hunger Carnival on May 16th.
