Happy Dollars:
  1. Brian Lindsey was $10 happy that they had placed all of their new puppies in good home. He thought that they would have to put down Scout, the puppy they kept, but fortune smiled upon them and after the third vet that they tried got Scout back on its feet.
  2. Geoli was $20 happy because she had a rack of her clothing sample for display and that she was having a limited open house for those wishing to purchase item.
  3. Jo B was $40 happy. $20 was to recognize the compassion of the club members and role models they provide. Her second  $20, was to remember how Chief Todd responded to the death of her father and provided an honor guard of firemen for her dad.
  4. Virginia Juettner was $10 happy because the Hakalau Jodo Mission was going to erect a Peace Pole on its property because of Tim Hansen’s presentation to Mission membership on World Peace Day.
  5. Michelle Fleming was $50 happy because she Jason have been together for 23 years and her son just completed his program.

Guest Speaker:  Kathleen McGilvary, YWCA CRO
  • Kathleen started her presentation by surveying the audience as to their knowledge of the YWCA. She got several answers regarding swimming pools and services.
  • She then gave us background on the local YWCA. It started in 1919 as housing provider for young, working women with the goal of eliminating racism and empowering women. It is locally run by a board of directors and locally funded. The association with the national YWCA is very modest. The current physical plant goes back to the 1930s and will continue to be used well into the future because of major modifications beginning in the spring. The pools will be eliminated to make space for the early childhood programs which will move into buildings specifically designed for their use as well as other programs.
  • In addition to the early childhood programs, the YWCA has rape and strangulation intervention programs, 24 hour crisis hotline, a home visit program for infants and mothers and a  nutrition program.
