Announcements, Director / Committee Chair report

  • Veterans Project -- Virginia Juettner.

Virginia reported that the Veterans Day drive has been postponed due to other activities going on.  We still plan to drop off the items that have been collected on November 10 for the patients of the facility.  The Veteran's home suggests a drive by around Thanksgiving, date to be determined.  Ipad purchase isn't finalized, but we are getting there.  Virginia wanted to acknowledge Miyuki, Hirona and Steven's contribution of orchids for the patients at the facility.
  • District Auction -- Mary Begier

Mary communicated via L. Davis that the auction has been extended to November 2 and she is still accepting auction items for bidding.  She asked that you fill out the auction form that was sent out previously and submit a picture of the item and she will put it on the website.  Those who has done a "buy it now" purchase cannot pay for the item just yet.  More information to follow.
  • Volunteer opportunity  - Halloween with Boys and Girls Club -- Junichi Noumaru

Junichi reported that the event has been cancelled but we have been asked to consider helping for a Thanksgiving event, still to be determined.
  • Global Grants - Junichi Noumaru, Chester Cabral, Curt Sharp

Chester reported that we chose two projects to support:

GG1752052 Kumari Hospital medical equipment and training
GG2098529  Bhutan Wilderness Medicine VVT
  • Volunteer opportunity  - Continuing through November.  -- Junichi Noumaru

State Department of Health and UH Nursing request Rotarians to help for the face mask observation. The purposes of this project are (1) to monitor ongoing use of face masks/coverings by the public in Hawaii and (2) to track social norm change in regard to mask wearing over time. A pair of volunteers will count the number of people who (a) wear the mask correctly, (b) wear the mask in correctly and (c) don't wear the mask at a designated location (Prince Kuhio Plaza, Keaukaha Beach Park (Start at parking lot), Liliuokalani Park or Airport post office) from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Saturdays until November 28. Instructions include the counting device and how to report the counts are available on YouTube:
The sign-up sheet is also available online.
If you have any question, please contact Dr. Glauberman (

Special request by Tim Hansen

Tim made a special request and filled the club in on the details.  He has also sent an email out to the members with instructions.  I think this is a surprise, thus not being published.

Today's Happy Dollars will be earmarked for Polio Plus unless otherwise stated.

Kimo Jim Becker is $50 happy.  He likes our club.

Richard C. is $5 happy.  Alan O. gave a generous donation to HRYF.

Virginia and Bob J. are $20 happy.  $10 for the Polio Plus work and $10 to acknowledge Miyuki for the flower donation.

Tom W. is $2 happy.  He is back on the islands, was tested 2 times for COVID19 and was negative both times, so doesn't have to quarantine.  He is also warmer -- he left 32 degree weather to come home.

Chester C. is $20 happy for the work Rotary has done on polio.

Paula U. is $5 happy.  She saw her first Kolea in her back yard after having all the heliconia removed.

Art T. is $10 happy for the work we've done on polio.

Miyuki L. is $10 happy for the work Rotary has done on polio.

Lorraine D. is $100 happy.  The entire interior of her house as been painted and it is done!  Also she took two prints to Richard's gallery for framing.  The end product was incredible.
