Mark Your Calendars

District Conference 2021

  • Will be held for the first time in Hilo commemorating 100 years of Rotary on Big Island on May 14, 15 and 16, 2021.  The event is now 100% virtual.  Volunteers who have skills in videotaping and virtual platforms are requested.  Please contact Alan Kusunoki at aakusunoki@aol.com

District Conference 2023

  • Will be held in Hilo.  The committee is looking for volunteers to help with the planning and a co-chair from East Hawaii.
 

Future Rotary International Conventions

  • Taipei: June 12-16, 2021 Rotary International has announced that the International Conference will be virtual due to the ongoing threat of the COVID virus.  Stay tuned for further news.

Announcements, Director / Committee Chair report

  • Volunteer opportunity  - COVID Vaccine Scheduling for DOH -- Sharon Scheele.  Still needs volunteers.  Please contact Sharon if you are interested in helping.

  • Diaper Project -- Sharon Scheele and Geoli Ng.  The entire month of March is dedicated to raising funds for the Diaper Drive.  A flyer was sent out and members are requested to disperse them far and wide to support the project.

  • HRYF -- Richard Cunningham.  Richard is accepting donations for HRYF through March.

  • RYLA -- Tim Hansen.  RYLA was awesome and Tim thanks members who helped make it happen.

  • Junior Achievement -- Sharon Scheele.  Sharon is looking for volunteers to support JA in the schools.  Waiakea has 23 teachers looking for assistance.

  • Easter and the Foodbasket -- Sharon Scheele.  Sharon is coordinating efforts to support the Foodbasket for Easter.  Make checks payable to the Foodbasket so you get the tax credits and you can deliver it to Sharon and she will coordinate with the Foodbasket for delivery.  

  • April work day -- Deborah Beaver.  April 24th is a beach clean-up day Hawaii wide.  She is working with the Big Island coordinator (Keith Greer) to determine sites for clean-up.  More to follow as the date gets closer.

Junichi Noumaru was pictured in the Sunday, February 28th Tribune Herald, on Page A10, in color, in the Journey through the Universe Hawaii Island.  The faculty for the Astronomy Educators in the Community were listed.

Mary B. was $25 happy.  The Journey of the Universe was amazing.
Toby T. matched Mary's $25 for the Journey of the University compliment.
Sharon S. is $50 happy -- $25 for Girl's Day and the girls in her life and $25 because of the great experience she had with KTA delivery.  Her dollars are designated to HRYF.
Art T is $10 happy.  He acknowledged Toby T. for his second visit, happy to see Mike Marshall and showed us what he got the girls in his life for Girls Day.
Miyuki L. is $10 happy for Tim's success with RYLA.
Curt S. is $25 happy to see the enthusiasm of this group this morning.
Virginia J. is $10 sad.  Rotarian friend, Phil Silvers, lost his son to COVID his week.
Geoli is $25 happy.  Waiakea Water is supporting YuYok with water during her recovery and also her company is donating $100/month to Hawaii Diaper for the rest of the year.  She is happy to have Rotary as a partner.
